About Sliding Patio Doors

...

KAT are Patio Door experts. We have been manufacturing elegant sliding patio doors for 20 years and we are recognised by the trade as the premium supplier in the UK and Ireland. We are proud to offer the widest range of options available anywhere. Our comprehensive range includes low thresholds ensuring easy access for toddlers or wheelchair users, high security locking systems to keep you safe. Choose from a wide range of colours in uPVC or Aluminium.

Patio doors are often overlooked in comparison to bifold doors but because they slide within their own frame area and do not protrude into a room or onto a balcony or patio, they are often still the most space efficient option for many homes. Their weathering performance is excellent and patio doors can be supplied with a much bigger glass area than a bifold.  There is another major benefit in patio doors, they are often less expensive compared to a bifolding door. We sell four times more patio doors than we do bifolds which is a testament to their continued popularity and use-ability. In general, we would advise; if you have a great view and a wide enough opening go for a patio door. If you are space restricted go for a bifold. Of course the choice is yours.

We pride ourselves in offering the highest level of customer care and we are very happy to advise customers over the phone to ensure they make a fully informed choice.

We are the first UK manufacturer to design and produce a special ‘heavy duty’ roller set for triple glazed uPVC patio doors. We call them KAT ‘Hercules’ rollers and using them means that your heavy door sashes will be safely and reliably carried across the stainless steel track for years and years, requiring only occasional light oiling for maintenance. We fit a three star diamond rated cylinder lock with to our Patio Doors for your added security and safety.

Our manufacturing practices are industry leading and quality control procedures are stringent and recorded. Our mission is to never have an unsatisfied customer.

KAT awarded North West Enterprise Award for Best Patio Company 2017 and 2018.

Choosing Sliding Patio Doors

Changing a solid door for one with more glass, or creating a larger opening in your wall to allow for a Sliding Patio Door is a great way of allowing more natural light into your home.

What to look for when buying a Sliding Patio Door

When choosing a Sliding Patio Door, there are many things to consider, such as:

  • Which material to choose, Aluminium or uPVC
  • Inline or Lift & Slide
  • Dimensions of the sightline
  • Colour
  • Security
  • Cost

Aluminium Lift & Slide Patio Doors

Which material to choose; Aluminium or uPVC

Due to the strength of aluminium, each door panel can be made wider than a uPVC door and the profiles tend to be slimmer, allowing for more glass and less frame. Excellent U-Values can be achieved with either a twin or triple track. Aluminium Sliding Patio Doors are available in a wide range of RAL colours and require very little maintenance to keep them looking good over a long period of time.

uPVC Sliding Doors are energy efficient, offering cost effective thermal efficiency to reduce heating costs. They are very low maintenance and cleaning is simple using soapy warm water. uPVC Sliding Patio Doors tend to have thicker sightlines than Aluminium.

Which is more suitable, Inline Sliding or Lift & Slide Patio Doors?

For door sashes up to 1.5 metres wide, an Inline Sliding Patio Door will be ideal in either Aluminium or uPVC. For sashes over 1.5 metres wide and up to 3 metres wide, we would recommend an Aluminium Lift & Slide Patio Door. Operating Lift & Slide doors is easy, simply turn the handle through 180 degrees to raise the door on its track slightly and the doors then glide smoothly across the track. Cost

The cost of your Sliding Patio Doors will depend on many things, such as the material you choose, how many sliding panes you would like, whether you decide on an Inline Sliding Door or Lift & Sliding Door, the overall size and colour. A uPVC Sliding Door will cost less than an Aluminium Sliding Patio door because Aluminium as a raw material is more expensive than uPVC. KAT manufactures both uPVC and Aluminium Sliding Doors and offers a 10 year guarantee on both. If you would like a quote to supply and install a Sliding Patio Door, we can put you in touch with one of our Design Partners.

KAT manufactures a wide range of Aluminium Sliding Patio Doors, with a slim 35mm sightline, an Inline Sliding Patio door with 87mm sightline and a Lift & Slide Patio door with a 107mm sightline. KAT has been manufacturing uPVC Sliding Patio Doors since 1998, with a low threshold and capable of meeting Part M. KAT is also an exclusive supplier of the ‘Svarre’ range of Frameless Glass to Glass Sliding Doors.

Further information about each of the doors can be found on their webpages below.
