Patio doors are often overlooked in comparison to bifold doors but because they slide within their own frame area and do not protrude into a room or onto a balcony or patio, they are often still the most space efficient option for many homes. Their weathering performance is excellent and patio doors can be supplied with a much bigger glass area than a bifold. There is another major benefit in patio doors, they are often less expensive compared to a bifolding door. We sell four times more patio doors than we do bifolds which is a testament to their continued popularity and use-ability. In general, we would advise; if you have a great view and a wide enough opening go for a patio door. If you are space restricted go for a bifold. Of course the choice is yours.

Aluminium Lift & Slide Patio Doors
Due to the strength of aluminium, each door panel can be made wider than a uPVC door and the profiles tend to be slimmer, allowing for more glass and less frame. Excellent U-Values can be achieved with either a twin or triple track. Aluminium Sliding Patio Doors are available in a wide range of RAL colours and require very little maintenance to keep them looking good over a long period of time.
uPVC Sliding Doors are energy efficient, offering cost effective thermal efficiency to reduce heating costs. They are very low maintenance and cleaning is simple using soapy warm water. uPVC Sliding Patio Doors tend to have thicker sightlines than Aluminium.
KAT PVC Sliding Patio Door
For door sashes up to 1.5 metres wide, an Inline Sliding Patio Door will be ideal in either Aluminium or uPVC. For sashes over 1.5 metres wide and up to 3 metres wide, we would recommend an Aluminium Lift & Slide Patio Door. Operating Lift & Slide doors is easy, simply turn the handle through 180 degrees to raise the door on its track slightly and the doors then glide smoothly across the track. Each of our Aluminium Sliding Patio Doors offers unique features and benefits. Our Slim Sliding Door has a 35mm sightline and is available as either an Inline Sliding Door or Lift & Slide. The Kawneer Inline Sliding Patio Door has a sightline of 87mm and the Lift & Slide Patio Doors have a meeting style dimension of 107mm.
The choice of colours is endless. With our Aluminium range, we recommend the luxurious textura finish in a wide range of RAL colours, with White and Anthracite Grey currently being the two most popular colours.
We understand that your doors need to be secure for your peace of mind. All of our Sliding Patio Doors are fitted with multi-point locks with a 3 star security cylinder.
The cost of your Sliding Patio Doors will depend on many things, such as the material you choose, how many sliding panes you would like, whether you decide on an Inline Sliding Door or Lift & Sliding Door, the overall size and colour. A uPVC Sliding Door will cost less than an Aluminium Sliding Patio door because Aluminium as a raw material is more expensive than uPVC.
