Emmegi Phantomatic CNC
KAT recently invested in an Emmegi Phantomatic X4 CNC Machine in a move towards a more efficient, paperless factory. At its Macclesfield factory, KAT is using the new Phantomatic X4 with a CNC link and bar code scanning option to speed up fabrication on aluminium doors and windows. Rick Barlow at KAT is pictured below in an article headed ‘Ongoing efficiency drive’ which appeared in Glass Times in 2016.
Julie Wales, Production Director at KAT said “We’ve put in place a recommended daily maintenance routine which is quick and operator friendly. As a result, we’re achieving exceptional reliability and consistency and the machine is helping us to achieve all of the product efficiencies that we had hoped.” This year, KAT is able to offer a 10 day lead time on Aluminium Bifold Doors, Patio Doors, French Doors and Front Doors and a three week lead time on Aluminium windows, in a choice of 7 colours from stock, including dual colours. Julie said “We have identified the 10 day lead time as a key competitive advantage for us in the marketplace, so it’s vital that we optimise our efficiency using the machining centre.”

At the FIT Show 2016, Spitfire Doors, sister company of KAT, launched its range of premium European Aluminium composite entrance doors, to include Comet and Inotherm ranges of doorsets. The Spitfire team believes that aluminium composite doors are the next big thing for the UK entrance door market, as consumers look for enhanced levels of security and reliable product performance.

From February 2016, to be able to offer a 10 day lead time on all doors and a 3 weeks lead time on all windows, KAT carries stock of 7 colours, including 5 single colours and 2 dual colours, namely: Black, Anthracite Grey, Light Grey, White, Cream and 2 dual colours Black outside and White inside, Anthracite Grey outside and White inside.
